Thanksgiving Preview and Show Low Cabin

Dear family and friends and people who (I hope) still read this blog,

There is an 18 pound turkey working on thawing in my refrigerator.

I offer only one explanation for why we have such a giant turkey for two people: Rob.

But this turkey made me start thinking about Thanksgivings past. It's hard to believe that this will be the third Thanksgiving I've been married, worked at combining the holiday traditions of both Rob and my families and tried to create our own traditions. Thanks for reading about them all :)

Just in case you wanted a recap: This was our first Thanksgiving, and this was our second.

Right before our first Thanksgiving together, Rob and I created a video tour of our first apartment. That feels like forever ago.

It's strange to think that two years later, we are just about ready to share another tour with you, but this time of our first house.

When we moved into the house in early March this year, the walls were dirty white and the house smelled like closed up yuck. The garage door opener was broken and there were a lot of weeds in the yard. There were no appliances, no ceiling fans and the grossest kitchen sink ever.

A whole lot of paint, candles, hard work and money later, we have fixed all this (aside from the weeds situation in the front and back yard).

On Saturday, we bought paint for the last two rooms that need to be painted: a light green for the office, and the same tannish/grey and purple in the master bedroom for the master bathroom. Our goal is to paint these rooms this week/weekend, and share a complete (interior) tour of our house with you! Stay tuned :)

Aside from painting, cooking waaayyy too much turkey (and side dishes), Rob and I are planning on a movie marathon and a lot of relaxing this long Thanksgiving weekend. I have a feeling I will wind up at Target (and who knows where else) on Black Friday, but I'm thinking I will leave Rob at home this year :) While it will be strange spending the holiday without family (again), we will be thinking of you all, and probably trying to figure out a way to send you turkey in the nice, flat rate boxes at the post office!

Before I get ready for bed, Rob and I wanted to share a few pictures from the cabin we stayed at in Show Low a few weekends ago. This cabin was off the charts ridiculously nice and we had a fantastic weekend, spending time with friends in the cooler weather and higher elevation. Check it out...

A big picture of the front of the house.

Close up on the front porch...we really liked waking up, putting on a sweatshirt and drinking coffee here.

Family room/living type area with a super awesome wood fireplace. In the mornings, Jared (one of our friends) always woke up first and started a fire, so we woke up to the sound of it crackling.

An overview of the kitchen...focus on the breakfast bar stools with real saddles! (Kind of a strange/cool thing I think...)

This is the bedroom where Rob and I stayed. There's sunlight coming through the window along the back wall, and both sides of the ceiling were slanted...I loved that!

And a fancypants bathroom. The shower was GIANT and two of its walls were the wooden logs, which was a little strange too but really awesome.

That's all the pictures I have and I've gotten seriously sleepy! We hope you have a great few days leading up to Thanksgiving and wish we could be with you all! Love and miss you, Sarah and Rob

Helicopter Video

Hi again :)

Here is the link to the YouTube video of the helicopter landing on the field at halftime of the Homecoming game. This video is taken from inside the helicopter...Rob borrowed a camera that attached to his headset from one of the other instructors to record his perspective of it all. Enjoy!
