Things got off to a bit of a rocky start. We'd purchased paint for the hallway when Mom was here and we picked out colors for the kitchen. Thinking we'd have enough paint to cover the hall and guest bedroom, Rob and I started edging and painting last Saturday night. Of course, we ran out of paint. I headed out to Lowe's while Rob was at work last Sunday, came home, painted, and kept noticing a remarkable difference between where we'd painted the night before and where I was painting then. As it turns out, the paint we started with was a semi-gloss finish (probably because we bought it at the same time as all of the kitchen paint), and the paint I bought and painted more with was satin. Such a big, ugly difference. A few frustrated tears later, I planned to repaint it all, bought another gallon of satin from Lowe's and fueled up with Starbucks to paint the night away.
Note the Starbucks cup on the back of the ladder and all the paint cans.
We managed to finish painting the guest bedroom and some of the hallway before the party, but the hallway is still on the to-do list today. I was ridiculously happy, however, because Rob helped me paint the polka dots on the wall in the guest room I was so excited about. Here are a few pictures of the dots and the (somewhat) finished guest room.
Rob also was able to paint and clean the guest/hall bathroom last week. (He rocks!) Here are a few pictures of it as well. I am debating sponge painting a teal color over top of the tan in the bathroom. It was my original plan, but now I am afraid it might be too much. Input is welcome :)
Rob also built a cornhole set on Friday night before the party, which was a big hit. It still needs sanded and painted, so completed pictures will have to be forthcoming. Katie and I went to two feed stores to find corn for the bags...a much more difficult task in Arizona than it would have been in Ohio...who would have thought?!?! Our friends out here hadn't played before, and seemed to really like the game a lot. Overall, I'd say our preparations leading up to and the housewarming party itself were a success. I baked and cooked wayyyy too much food, but the leftovers will be wonderful this week because it will give me a break from the kitchen. I think Rob and I are both are looking forward to a much needed break from housework in general.
A few last random pictures I'll leave you with before I head to bed to gear up for another week:
Brownie chip cookies and raspberry cheesecake cupcakes for the housewarming party! Katie and I were quite pleased with our domestic skills here.
Katie and I...in front of the polka dots of course :)
Hope all is well with everyone! Rob and I miss you all...and extend again an offer to visit Phoenix and stay in the polka dot bedroom :) Dad will be out in just under two weeks...and I'm sure he will appreciate the decor :) Love, Sarah and Rob
